There is a moment in Capoeira when everything becomes still not because the body stops moving, but because the movement becomes so fluid, so intentional, that it feels like breathing. That moment is what we call axé. It is energy. It is life force. It is the thing that keeps you in the ginga even when the world tells you to stop.
In April 2025, the world told me to stop.
A Diagnosis That Changed Everything
I was diagnosed with breast cancer in April 2025. I won't pretend that the news didn't shake me it did. But what I discovered in the weeks that followed was something my father, Mestre Marinaldo Esporão, had been teaching me since I was a child: that Capoeira is not just a martial art. It is a philosophy of resilience. You do not fall you esquiva. You do not retreat you ginga.
So I moved.
I moved through fear. I moved through uncertainty. And somewhere in that movement, Capoeira in Motion was born.
Where the Brand Comes From
I have spent years studying both the art and the business of movement. With a Master's degree in Business and Marketing, I understood how to build a brand. But this one wasn't built in a boardroom it was built in the roda, in hospital waiting rooms, and in the quiet moments between treatments when I asked myself: what do I want to leave behind?
The answer was clear. I wanted to create something for the Capoeira community and for every woman and athlete who has ever been told their body has limits. I wanted capoeira activewear that honours the culture, moves with the body, and carries the spirit of the art form it represents.
There was no capoeira clothing brand in the UK doing this. Not with this level of intention. Not with this story behind it.
So I built one.
